These are Amish chocolate chip oatmeal bars that came out of the oven of Bontrager's bakery in Clark, Missouri. This is an Amish bakery in the rapidly growing Amish settlement. The photo is by Jessica Salmond and the recipe comes to me from an Amish woman in Missouri, so this is probably the same basic recipe. In this photo the bars are cooling on a rack Try these amazing sounding bars yourself with the recipe below!

The oatmeal bard sound great as a breakfast cookie as I enjoy my morning coffee. I do not think the grandpa remark was based on your threads of gray hair , but simple logistics. I think you said your 44 so logistically you could very easily be a grandpa. Your children were born relatively late as compared to the typical early twenties. Not a bad thing as I think good parenting is improved with maturity. I once made the same error. I was taking classes at Ohio University and was in the food court one Saturday morning when I saw my political science professor having a snack with a 6 or 7 year old boy that I assumed to be his grandson. I greeted him nicely and asked if had his grandson for a university visit. I was very embarrassed when he announced it was his son and I worried the remainder of the quarter than I had offended my professor. AFTER ALL HE DETERMINED GRADES!

Ha, thanks for sharing that, yeah, you are probably right about it just being simple logistics...still, it can be jarring!
