This is a recipe that I received from an Amish woman in the Swartzentruber Amish settlement of Sinking Spring, Ohio. Â If you want your house to smell amazing and have a great snack to boot, you'll want to try this delicious, easy recipe for your own homemade granola cereal. Â Most of these recipes are ones that the average Amish cook would stock up on at her local Amish-owned bulk food store. Â Many Amish in this area have their own beehives so the addition of their own Ohio honey to the recipe would add a sweet, clovery flavor. Â So it's important to try to use some really good honey in this recipe.
This cereal is great as a snack or stirred into some homemade (or store-bought) yogurt. Â Yum!
This is a photo of the large jar of homemade granola cereal in their kitchen. Â This is a pretty no frills recipes (but delicious), but if you're like me you might want to experiment by adding proportional amounts of chocolate chips or marshmallows (or both!:)
- 14 cups oatmeal
- 1 cup honey
- 1¼ cup vegetable oil
- 4 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 pound coconut
- 1 sleeve graham crackers (Crushed)
- 1 1 /2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- Preheat oven to 320.
- Mix well.
- Pour into a jelly roll pan or cookie sheet.
- Bake in a slow oven a thin layer at a time until coconut is brown.
