If along the way you are looking for additional Amish families, please don’t hesitate to contact Geauga County Tourism. I sat on their board for a couple of years and the director is well known in the Amish community. She has earned both their respect and their friendship. So I am positive she could be of value in your quest.

Oh please tell me Lovina isn’t going to stop writing the column!!!!!! I feel like they are part of our family. If I had the finances I would send money for you. Unortunatly I’m on a very fixed income and can’t. But will keep you in my prayers. I was raised on a very old farm and we did all our own food growing, canning etc. I remember the GOOD life as I refer to it now. I am so glad I have that part of my life to look back on. Thank you for all your hard work Kevin. We do appreciate it.

Gee…if you can write a post on the Amish Cook comments area about Kevins interesting and informative column, then you can also come here and read Lovina’s column and print it out. No need to make that ‘mile walk’ unless it’s for exercise!

Sir: You are to be commended for your efforts about/with the Amish. My married family and I are from Lancaster, Pa and now in MIlton, Pa–all areas involving the Amish folks.
I look forward to the Amish cook columns, but I have attempted to contact you many times for a recipe for Amish V 8 Juice: NO answer or reply. Perhaps I have offended you; if so I appologise.

Janette you dont’ have to be so rude! If it wasn’t Kevin we wouldn’t have Lovina’s column. So I want to thank Kevin for all of his hard work and dedication in bringing us very interesting information, news, and facts about the Amish. I especially enjoy all of the recipes that are posted.

You should contact BBC broadcasting. They did a great series Living With the Amish that I loved and found very tasteful. Otherwise, publish your experiences and sell it in DVD format. I would definitely purchase it!

Wendy, thank you. Yes, you are right…I have watched that series and it is outstanding, sort of having been using that as a template for mine…

Having been raised near New Wilmington, PA and finding the amish culture wonderful…your column brings me “home again” when I am missing all that comes with the scenery and amish baking and stores since we now live in Edmond, OK. Keep on keeping on!!!! Wish I could talk my hubby into moving into Amish country!!!!!

I read your column with interest. My husband is ex-Amish, and we have a deep and profound respect for his background, family and upbringing. I, for one, am tired of the TV focus on the non-realities of Amish life. Those shows are a complete farce, spreading an unrealistic view (and a bad view) of the Amish people. And the worst part is that people believe it. Really? They think there’s an Amish mafia? I would value a show that showed what Amish life is really like and one that portrayed these people as the kind and loving people they truly are, but I doubt the TV producers of the world would find it exciting enough without any buggy races involved ;) Good luck.
