Fountain Acre Foods is about an hour away from where I live, which means it's the closest Amish bakery to me, which probably by geographic default makes it one of my favorite:) I had the good fortune of stopping by Fountain Acres the other day (bad fortune, if you're my diet). Take a look at these gorgeous pies. The store, which is celebrating its sixth year in business, has really ramped up its bakery offerings. The store also has an expanded deli counter for sandwiches on the go. The business is run by Stevie and Mary Anne who moved to this new Amish settlement between Richmond and Fountain City, Indiana. Those pies look amazing and unfortunately I've never met a pie I didn't like and even worse, I've never met a cinnamon roll I didn't enjoy. And I enjoyed this one! This was a caramel frosted cinnamon roll - before I devoured it - which was about the size of a small melon. Here is Lovina's recipe, by the way, for quick caramel frosting which you can use to make your own caramel cinnamon rolls.
QUICK CARAMEL FROSTING
- 4 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 4 Tbsp. milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar (or as needed)
- In a saucepan combine the brown sugar, butter, and milk, heat over low heat till just boiling. Stir immediately and then remove from the heat. Let cool completely.
- Thicken the frosting with powdered sugar to your desired consistency.

Here is my long gone mother-in-law's recipe for caramel icing. It has never, ever failed. My daughter gets a caramel frosted cake on each of her birthdays as do I.
Gwen’s Easy Caramel Icing
2 cups white sugar
12 big marshmallows
1½ sticks of butter
½ cup buttermilk
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon of lite Karo or corn syrup
Mix in a very large pan as this stuff will boil over. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture forms a ball when dropped in cold water. Beat with a mixer until it cools and starts to stiffen. This amount covers a one layer sheet cake with plenty to spare.

Thanks for sharing that, sounds like an awesome recipe!

A few weekends ago, my husband and I traveled over 100 miles (one way) to go to Fountain Acre Foods, where we found the store closed on a Saturday because of a wedding of one of the workers. What a disappointment that was for us. We had planned this trip for almost two weeks, and I even Googled it to find where it was located. Why didn't they inform the public (online) that the store would be closed that day? The man outside of the store told us that there were flyers handed out and posted for the locals to let them know about the store being closed for the wedding...but nothing posted on their website. With the price of gas, that trip turned out to be a very expensive letdown. Needless to say, I was very upset!
