By Kevin Williams. This is a 2 in 1 post. Rosanna Bauman wrote in her last column about the joys of tasting pure maple syrup. She has a look of surprise here as she tastes the pure goodness of maple syrup for the first time. And take a look at the wonderful looking maple-leaf shaped jar full of pure syrup. Meanwhile, I thought I'd share a recipe for homemade maple brownies from an Amish woman in Wisconsin:
1 cup maple syrup (pure)
2 eggs
1 cup butter (substitutes)
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup ground walnuts (measure first then grind)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13x9"pan. Cream together butter and brown sugar. Beat in eggs until well mixed, and then beat in the maple syrup until blended. Beat in flour and baking powder. Spread batter evenly in pan.Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min., or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool and cut into squares.
