As you can imagine, I get a ton of recipes crossing my desk throughout the course of a year, especially this past year when we were working on Amish Cooks Across America. Â I thought it'd be fun for you to see a recipe exact as I get it, this one is from the Swartzentruber Amish settlement in Ethridge, Tennessee. Â The recipe is written in paragraph style and should show up enough in this photo for you to read. Â If you decide to try it, let me know how it turns out! Â This recipe didn't make the cut for the book because we had too many recipes from Ethridge, we just didn't have the space.

This sounds really good and easy! I like easy!

Made it. Im in Detroit, So it was excrutiatingly HOT these past few days- but who can resist Chili or Chili Soup?? So i made this EXACTLY how its written, Ive never used Tomato juice- just plain Tomato juice but I did for this. Its good- really good- But just a tad bland.
Kevin
Thanks, Jackie..any suggestions on how to spice it up a bit? My father likes bland, so that'd be right up his alley, but I like a little kick to my chili...

Sriracha! It spices everything up. 😀
I'm surprised that the recipe only calls for chili powder and salt. I have taco seasoning mix on hand that I make in bulk and I would use that for the seasonings instead and boost it with some fresh garlic and black pepper.

Use "Spicey V8"

I can taste this even before I make it! I am going to let it cook down more to a thick consistancy and lavish it over a mustered hot dog! It's gonna be yum!

I use chili beans, canned tomatos, taco seasoning, black beans, a little salt, pepper, about a couple tsp. or so.of sugar. it is yummy.....My husband loves it.
Carolyn
oops I left out the hamburger. Cooked well of course.

Sounds a lot better than my mama's crock pot Chili. Thinking of doing this sometime only thing is we do not like Kidney beans. I am not to crazy about beans anyways.
Kevin
You can leave the beans out and it'll still be good:)
