DIRT PUDDING
Amish: Dirt Pudding
Ingredients
- 1 12 ounce package of Oreo cookies
- 2 3 ounce boxes of instant vanilla pudding
- 1 16 ounce Cool Whip
- 1 8 ounce cream cheese
- 1 stick margarine, melted
- 3 cups milk
Instructions
- Crush cookies with a rolling pin. Place all except 1 cup of crumbs in the bottom of a 9 X 13 inch pan. Pour margarine over crumbs in the pan. Mix milk and cream cheese. Add pudding and mix well. Pour over crumbs and then top with Cool Whip. Sprinkle with leftover crumbs and chill.

If this is a true Amish recipe, just out of curiosity, why in the world would you use margarine instead of real butter? I'm not Amish and this is sacrilege to me!

Dirt Pudding is a pop culture recipe that has gotten passed around and, no, I doubt it's "Amish." You'd be surprised, though, how often margarine is seen in Amish kitchens, one of those mid/late 20th century food trends that caught on in some Amish settlements under the guise of it being "healthier", but real butter is my preference and you can use it in this recipe.
