EDITOR’S PICK – AMISH ART: I’m a big fan of Cheryl McNulty’s artwork. For me, I think her art reaches me at a “comforting” level. This past year or so has just been a rough ride for me so I’ve been drawn to things which give me comfort and Cheryl’s artwork does that for me. It’s very accessible, approachable art, whereas some art seems distant, remote or too open to interpretation. But with Cheryl’s art – for me – it just exudes comfort. One of these days I’ll get something of hers to hang in my office!:) What makes art so special is that it does speak to different people in different ways. Click here to check out Cheryl’s latest work in progress, a work called “Amish Girl at a Farmstand.” Can’t wait to see how it turns out! I’ll share the finish product with all of you when she posts it.
HOMEMADE PIZZA POCKETS: Yesterday, Gloria shared a recipe for homemade pizza pockets. I wanted to get a photo of the pockets but I didn’t have time to make them at home so I was searching online for pictures of something similar to share. Lo’ and behold I discovered pizza pockets on the site of a different Gloria, so how fitting!:) “Simply Gloria’s” recipe is similar to our Gloria’s and they would look basically the same, so check out Simply Gloria’s pizza pockets here.
SINGING AMISH: While the Amish generally do not play musical instruments, music itself still plays a central role in the faith. Read an interesting article about the role of music in the Amish church here.
AMISH SPAGHETTI RECIPE AND AN OLD COOKBOOK: This is a short, but interesting, post if you are like me and enjoy ambiance and history of old Amish cookbooks. Hopefully this blogger will share more in the future, in which case, so will I! Click here to read the post.
COMFORT FOODS: Okay, since the theme of this post seems to be “comfort”, I’ll share two comfort food recipes with you, one Amish and one not. I enjoy the “Smile Sandwich” blog, always interesting to see what recipes she comes up with. I thought you’d all enjoy this one. Pot roasts are a Sunday staple in many Amish homes and it’s just classic comfort food. Some of her humor might be lost on you if you aren’t in tune with some of the shows she watches (I caught them because my wife watches some of them), anyway, here are this week’s comfort foods!
