Weekend Blogroll: Biking Northern Indiana Amish Country, Beef & Noodles, Amish Cinnamon Bread and More!

    Published: Mar 2, 2014 · Updated: Mar 2, 2014 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

Usually the weekend blogroll focuses on a variety of topics, but this weekend it's all about the food! (although some bikes are thrown in for good measure).  So, let's get started:

AMISH BEEF & NOODLES:  this blog entry hits a home-run for showcasing a very traditional Amish dish:  homemade beef and noodles. Most Amish homemakers make their own noodles.  I've seen thin noodles that look like string, and wide-faced egg noodles.  But either way, these homemade pastas are the best.  This blogger used a wider noodle and came up with a dish that I've seen as a staple on Amish menus. Click here to see some photos and get the recipe!

CINNAMON BREAD:  Okay, I've showcased homemade Amish cinnamon bread recipes on Weekend Blogroll before, but the photos with this one looked especially yummy.  And this recipe (I've seen variations of it before in Amish kitchens) is one that will reward you because it is so easy (not a yeast bread) and yummy. Click here to see the photos and get the recipe.

NORTHERN INDIANA AMISH COUNTRY BY BIKE: Travel50stateswithkids, a family-friendly travel site, featured a post this week that just has me pining for spring and the photos with it didn't help! I am very familiar and have written about the Mohican bikes and buggies trail in Ohio or even the Cardinal Greenway in southern Indiana but I have to admit I had not heard of the "Pumpkinvine Nature Trail" which winds through northern Hoosierland's Amish country.  Click here to see some neat photos of Amish farms and read about this trail!

AMISH CHEESY BREAKFAST CASSEROLE:  Another Amish kitchen classic. There are a million variations of this recipe, but they all come out with a similar hearty casserole that feeds an army. Check it out here.

AMISH TURNIP BAKE:  On a low carb diet and want turnips without the bitter bite?  This blogger has the answer.  And it actually sounds - and looks - pretty decent. Check it out here.
