Meals in Amish country during the summer months are highlighted with seasonal garden goodies and fresh meats. Â Amish cooking is fairly consistent year-round because of home-canning. Â A can of green beans can be opened in January for a taste of spring and summer fresh, but during the summer and fall, the meals literally can go from garden to table on the same day and there's something extra fresh and special about that. Â
It is not uncommon at all to just find sliced tomato and cheese sandwiches on an Amish lunch table in the summer. Nothing wrong with that. The freshness of the homemade bread and the garden tomatoes are overpowering. And in homes with children, school is out for the summer, so gone are the packed peanut butter and jelly, instead replaced with fruit, fried potatoes, and simple soups. Summer is a special time on an Amish farmstead and lunches reflect that.
These are some summer lunch photos I enjoyed in an Amish home once along with 6 favorite Amish summer lunch recipes.

I’m in Tn. Where can I find the Amish community here. I’ve been to the Amish in Ohio.
I also need a fresh peach pie recipe. Thank you.

Hi, Patricia, thanks for commenting. Here is a great Amish peach pie recipe. And, in Tennessee, the Amish settlement you want to visit is Ethridge, about 90 minutes outside of Nashville. Huge Amish settlement with lots of little mom and pop stores and roadside stands! - Kevin
