Amish Farmhouse Chicken is one of those super easy meals that are staples in Amish kitchens. Amish communities are like non-Amish ones when it comes to chicken: chicken consumption has been increasing over the years and that is true among the Amish also. Chicken is a versatile meat that is cheap and plentiful. Amish cooks use chicken in casseroles, soups, stews, stir-frys, and on and on. Or, with meals like simple Amish Farmhouse Chicken they will just lightly season it and bake it.

Not much to this recipe, but that is the beauty of it. You don't always need pungent spices and thick sauces, sometimes you can just bring out the flavor of meat with a few ingredients and this recipe does that.

By the way, one of the things that makes "Amish chicken" so flavorful has nothing to do with Amish, it's just being on a farm. Unlike factory farm-raised birds, chickens on Amish farms get regular exercise, eat by pecking and scratching out what they can, or indulge in table scraps. All of this results in meat that is tender, juicy, and flavorful in ways that you wouldn't find in a supermarket bird. Of course you can use this recipe for a supermarket bird and it'll bring out the best, but farm-raised is optimum.

Amish Farmhouse chicken is one of those not-very-fancy dishes but it tastes so good when made in an Amish home by an Amish cook. There's something comforting about the simplicity of this type of cooking, where you can really bring out the best in a dish with minimal ingredients. Less is more.

Paprika adds color to the mix of onion powder, garlic powder, and flour.

Then dredge the chicken in the mixture. If you like "crunch" to your chicken, this is where you could add some cracker crumbs or rice cereal to the mixture, but you definitely don't need to. This chicken is fine as is.

The chicken bakes to a perfect golden brown.

The chicken pairs well with a bean salad, potatoes, fresh corn, broccoli, really, any vegetable goes well with this. Enjoy!
