Has anyone seen the Col. Sanders look-a-like on the new KFC TV commercials? Â Kind of unsettling. I don't think I like him. Â You can't recreate an original and Col. Harlan Sanders was an American icon and original. Â It'd be like trying to bring back Orville Redenbacher, you just can't do it. Â So I prefer to remember Col. Sanders as he appears above.
Amish cooks love to "copy" fast food recipes. Â Why go out to buy a bucket of chicken if you can re-create it at home? Â And although this recipe doesn't have 11 herbs and spice. Â Heck, it doesn't have any. Â It still is called "Finger lickin'" good by the Amish cook who penned the recipe. So it must be pretty tasty and easy.
You fry the chicken according to your own preference and then Amish cook Naomi Miller takes it from here:
- Chicken, cut-up
- ½ cup vinegar
- ½ cup melted butter
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Fry chicken as usual, then dip into a mixture of the above ingredients.
- Put into a pan and bake for 30 minutes.
- Very good!

Now I'm going to be singing "chicken in the bucket, chicken in the beans, chicken in the bucket, chicken in the beans" for the rest of the day.
I posted on the KFC Facebook site the other day that this guy gives me the creeps. Looks and sounds like he should be in a trashy panel van offering candy to kids...

I think the KFC commercials are hilarious. Darrell Hammond (sp?) from Saturday Night Live is portraying the colonel, in such a sickeningly sweet fashion, we laugh every time they're on.
On the other hand the KFC product is such a shadow of it's former self, gobs of breading, so greasy and side dishes that leave a poor impression. I am sure it's not just a case of my taste buds maturing, this product has gone way downhill.

Agreed, nancy, when I was a kid KFC's chicken was first rate (for fast food) but I wouldn't go there now even if the original Colonel Sanders himself rose from the dead!

My husband and I having been saying the same thing. Just creepy and disrespectful to the real Mr. Sanders. I change the station when the commercial comes on!

Kevin,
Cecil and I must be your long time readers. I will be 95 in a few weeks and have been reading since the first Amish Cook and newspapers and before you were married.
Keep up the good work and delicious recipes.
Mollie .
