Amish Home Remedies: Clear Thinking, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Foot Care and Toothcare

    AMISH HOME REMEDIES

I picked up another Amish home remedy book at an Amish bulk food store somewhere. The book is called "Home Remedies from Amish Country" by Abana Books.    Not sure if the remedies work, but it's a fun read.   Sheesh, I think I am going to start buying pecans in bulk!:)   Here are a few of my favorite remedies (and I love the commentary that some put with them!:):

    CLEAR THINKING

"To enable yourself to think more clearly, eat three pecan halves daily." - Andy Byler

    DIZZINESS
"Dizziness can be relieved by drinking water with a splash of vinegar to it." - Atlee Miller

    DROWSINESS
"Take three ginseng capsules before you leave for church. This will help you listen to the sermon with your eyes open. This should not be done right before bedtime." -  Mrs. Levi Miller

    FOOT CARE
"Get rid of corns and bunions by bandaging them overnight with slices of raw onion and old bread wetted down with lots of full-strength vinegar.  End foot odors by soaking the feet a couple of times a week in ⅓ cup vinegar, added to a small pan of water.  Toss in one tea bag also."  - Mattie Ann Miller

    TOOTH CARE
"To relieve a toothache, wet a small piece of cotton with vanilla and put it on the aching tooth." Enos Byler

"Here's an idea to inspire your children to keep their teeth clean. Set a timer in the bathroom for 3 minutes and tell them to brush until it goes off." Enos Petersheim

Hi, I have heard that the Amish can buy a certain number of homes or farms & then turn them over to your Church. That way they do not have to pay Property Taxes. Is this true. [email protected]

I have this book and the other volume for the farm and home also. I have tried some of these and some work. I've also tried a few that didn't seem to do anything. Some of these remedies are very old and were used by my grandmother and others just a generation or two ago here in East Tn.
