PARADE’S AMISH BREAKFAST CASSEROLE FOR SUPPER: I’ve waxed nostalgic before about Parade Magazine. It used to be the premiere Sunday supplement to newspapers, a meaty magazine full of interesting stories. In the 1980s and 1990s USA WEEKEND premiered to compete with Parade and both magazines were considered must-reads. And, as a writer, making it into Parade was a career-crowning achievement. Today, wow, how the mighty have fallen. Both magazines are shells of their former selves. Still, Parade marches on and this week they have a recipe for Amish Breakfast Casserole which makes for a great supper. Click here for the recipe.
MUD SALE SCHEDULE: Wow, it’s that time of year again, already? Mud sales are a staple of Amish and Mennonite life in Pennsylvania in late winter and spring. You can pick up some good deals, park in a muddy field (hence their name), and, perhaps most important, sample some amazing food. Click here for a full schedule courtesy of the York Daily Record.
AMISH HOME FOR SALE: It is a little unusual to see a listing like this because, especially in a large, established community like the Conewango Valley of New York, Amish homes are in short supply and they get snapped up fast even before being listed, or they get passed down to a family member. So I’m surprised to see such a traditional listing. Click here to peruse this Amish home and put in your offer if it strikes your fancy
AMISH ACRES LIVES ON: Amish Acres was auctioned off and will be reopened. Honestly, that is what I had thought all along would happen. Amish Acres is a mainstay in the northern Indiana Amish tourism community and I figured someone would come along and swoop it up and that is what happened. Click here to read more. See you at the Round Barn!
MILLIE’S HEARTY HAMBURGER SUPPER: Check out Illinois Amish columnist Millie Otto….I like her life philosophy: when life throws you curveballs, eat more sandwiches. I can go for that! Click here.
