This is a weird story. A 23-year-old Amish woman goes from driving buggies a year or so ago to driving multi-ton trucks today? That, my friends, is an unusual journey! She was delivering bottled water to Wal-Mart when she traveled onto the wrong bridge and it collapsed. The Daily Mail had a big article about it. I think they were a little hard on her in the piece, I agree with the people who pointed the blame more at the trucking school that licensed the young woman. She was obviously in over her head. I’m just glad no one was injured. Click here to read the story and see the vivid photos showing the bridge collapse.
Someone leaving the Amish isn’t terribly unusual, but what possessed her to want to become a truck driver is definitely something I’d love to find out more about. Orange County, Indiana, where this accident took place and where the woman is from is home to a very conservative Swartzentruber Amish community.
