BREAKING AMISH: Oh goody (insert sarcasm), the TLC drama "Breaking Amish" is set to return to the airwaves for another season. I've never watched the show and don't have any real desire to. If I want Amish fiction, I'll read it, not watch it. Click here to read about the latest developments in this long-running show.
AMISH GENETICS: Interesting story about how accumulating knowledge about rare disorders among the Amish can lead to preventative medicine as opposed to more expensive options. Click here.
IDAHO AMISH: I posted an article last week about a new, small Amish settlement near Baker, Idaho. I was assuming the settlement might be a "daughter community" of a closer one, perhaps St. Ignatius, Montana. But, no, it appears this is a "from scratch" settlement started by Amish from Pennsylvania. Really interesting to watch the Rockies welcome more and more Amish. Click here to read more.
MENNONITES CAN: Read about the wonderful work of the Mennonite Central Committee's efforts to can meat and ship to the needy. The larger canners were working overtime in York, Nebraska this past week. Check it out here.
ARLENE'S APPLE CREAM PIE: This week we check in with Arlene Schmidt,an Amish writer of Swiss descent who pens a twice monthly column for the New Castle, Indiana newspaper. She's a great writer and this week includes a recipe for Apple Cream Pie (yum!) with her column. Check it out here.
