We have our special Amish in the News Friday edition today and there is some interesting stuff to discuss, so let's get to it!
AMISH QUILTS: An Amish quilt expert gave a presentation on the eastern shore of Maryland. It's interesting to read about how Amish quilts sort of began as a true Amish cultural necessity and have now sort of transformed into tourist icons. Â That part is unfortunate. I think the best quilts are probably the ones tucked away in an Amish attic made generations ago. Â The more touristy ones, well, they don't do quite as much for me. Â Click here to read.
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS VEHICLE?  Police are searching for an SUV involved in a hit and run accident with an Amish buggy near Clare, Michigan.  The article doesn't say how badly injured the Amish buggy occupants were, but hopefully police will find the perpetrator. AMISH IN PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND: Â It's been about a year since the first Amish families settled on Prince Edward Island. Â It's been fun to watch the community take root as more and more families come. Â Sounds like they are adjusting nicely and being accepted. Â Kind of funny to read about the Amish man chastising a Canadian reporter for photographing. Â Click here to read more.
SIGH - MORE KMART/SEARS CLOSINGS:  Man, the sinking ship just keeps sinking further.  Sears/Kmart just released of 28 more stores that are closing.   One of them closing is only a stone's throw for me, on Indian Ripple Road in Dayton, Ohio.  That only leaves one Kmart left in the Dayton, Ohio area.  I know where that one is  Woodman Drive - because a bike trail runs near it and I've gone into that Kmart before to get some cold bottled water before when I've been biking.  Click here to see the complete list, is there one near you? Sears also announced the closing of 50 of its in-store auto repair locations.  They have not released that list yet but I'll miss those.
