We have some interesting and tasty Amish stories in the news today, so let’s get to it!
KUTZTOWN FOLK FESTIVAL: SIGH, maybe I’ll make it next year. Probably not. But one day…this is America’s premiere showcase of all things Pennsylvania Dutch. This year it celebrated its 70th anniversary. Read about this year’s festival and put it on your calendar for next year!
THE AMISH GO TO COURT: A fascinating article because usually Amish family squabbles don’t spill into courtrooms, but this one did….even more unusual because it involved an elderly Amish person. A judge finally awarded custody of an elderly Amish woman to a family member after reports of abuse had surfaced where she was staying. AMISH VOICES: This would be an interesting book to read because the stories are so authentically Amish. I know the book’s editor, Brad Igou, and he is very conscientious about what he writes when it comes to the Amish so I am sure he picked excellent material for this book. Read more here. MILLIE’S PRETZELS: Check in with Illinois Amish columnist Millie Otto who serves up her “Most Delicious Pretzels” this week. Check in with the latest from Millie and get her recipe.
SUMMER FRUIT CRISP: Not an Amish recipe, but it is a recipe from a Maysville, Ky whom I have met before and she is a very nice woman and an amazing cook with a strong following in the Maysville area through her column. This week she serves up a delicious-sounding fruit crisp that I thought our Amish365 readership would enjoy. Check out the recipe here.
