We have a mix of stories in the news this week, so let's get to it.
MURDER IN AMISH COUNTRY: There's a documentary coming up about this one...it is disturbing and don't read it if you think you'll be bothered, because the details are disturbing. This case is just awful. I will say, though, and I am NOT giving the Amish man any sort of praise....but he COULD have just lived his life, gotten away with murder, and lived to an old age. So while I am not praising the man, he did step forward to try to create a sense of justice so perhaps there is a shred of redeeming quality in him. I don't know, people are complicated. Click here to read more.
AUNTIE ANNE'S: These pretzels are a cultural icon, which is why I am watching the growth of Ben's Pretzels with such interest. But, anyway, Auntie Anne's is amazing. I love their pretzels. I think they are a little pricey and they, in my opinion, have oversaturated themselves but if you are not familiar with her humble Amish roots, you can read more here.
MILLIE'S NO-FUSS LASAGNA:Â Check out Illinois Amish columnist Millie Otto and her recipe this week for an easy, no-fuss lasagna, it does sound really good! Click here for the recipe.
AMISH LATTER DAY SAINTS: A Utah TV station produced a documentary about this and they are promoting it again this week. It is fascinating but I have mixed feelings about it.  Three Ohio families have left the Amish to join the Latter Day Saints, but they still live and dress Amish. EDITOR'S PICK - MENNONITES ADAPTING:  This is a superb article in the Reading, Pennsylvania newspaper about the changing Old Order Mennonite culture. I think this article captures richly and perfectly the gradual tradition away from farming, click here to read.
