DRILL THIEF: An Amish business owner in Pennsylvania confronts a shoplifter. It doesn't really turn out well.. Click here to read more.
THE BUDGET: This was an enjoyable read, the way small town newspapers used to be. This is an article by...well, we don't know, there is no byline, but there is a large photo of a woman identified as "Janet" that goes with the piece so we'll assume Janet wrote it. Other than not identifying the writer, the essay about Amish newspaper "The Budget" is a good one with some fascinating food nuggets. Apparently there is a Plain-owned restaurant (those are rare) near Albia, Iowa called The Countryside Restaurant. Any of our Iowa readers familiar with it? Anyway, click here for this fun read.
MENNONITES REACT TO "PURE": The CBC continues its drama series "Pure" about Mennonites in Ontario and Mexico and a seamy underworld of drugs that goes with it. Many in the Mennonite church are not happy about the portrayal. Read more here.
MILLIE'S PANCAKE PIZZA: We can check in and hear from Amish writer Millie Otto this week who shares a recipe for "Pancake Pizza." Read more here.
Pennsylvania Dutch Pot Pies...perfect cold weather comfort food!
ALLENTOWN MORNING CALL: The Allentown paper just does an amazing job showcasing Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. This is a mouth-watering article that appeared this past week about "Pennsylvania Dutch Pot Pie." Mmmm, I bet the lady chronicled in the article makes amazing pot pie, I'd love to show up at her house for supper! Click here to read the article
PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH POT PIE: I think the article does a great job of explaining how to make pot pies, but if you want a formal recipe to actually be able to follow, here is a good one. (and, as the author rightly says, there are many variations on this dish....I too am not saying this is the only one,but she just has a good, easy to follow recipe)

In your family photograph I noticed and appreciated the dinette set. I have one that is very similar and I truly love it. Mine is stamped on the bottom as May 1954. It is in great condition although I bought it used. My sons hate it and never fail to comment on when am I going to get a new one . Np plan for that despite their disparaging remarks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

A vintage dinette set for sure!
