"AMISH CASINO":  First of all, I'm not a huge fan of casinos. I just never feel like I have money to blow to do that.  I've played slot machines before and they are fun, and I suppose if they are penny or nickel slots then I'm in, but beyond that...well,I do like casino buffets. But several news outlets have been harping upon plans for a casino in Pennsylvania's Amish Country.  Again, I'm not a big fan of casinos and maybe there shouldn't be one here, I don't know, but the Amish connection that some media keep making in their stories is pretty tenuous. It's not like this proposed casino will be plopped down on prime Lancaster County farmland, it's pretty removed from the most concentrated Amish areas....so, anyway, click here to read and you can decide.
MILLIE'S AMISH CARAMEL PUDDING:Â Check in with Illinois Amish writer Millie Otto who shares the latest about spring in the Arthur Amish settlement along with an AMAZING sounding recipe! Click here.
This Amish buggy was clattering down the road near Fort Fairfield, Maine in the far northern part of the state. I visited there in 2015
AMISH SAWMILL ROLLS WITH THE PUNCHES: I didn't see anything major in this article, just an interesting piece. I've met the Amish sawmill owner mentioned in this article, they've been a vibrant addition to northern Maine's community. Click here.
RHUBARB SAUCE:Â This isn't an Amish recipe per se, but it is VERY popular among the Amish as rhubarb begins to dominate spring menus on Amish farmers, check out this recipe here.
SWISS MENNONITES FORGIVE BERN:Â Interesting article...good historical nuggets...I think society grows and evolves and enlightens and I'm not sure people today need to apologize for what people did 500 years ago, but it's a nice gesture and, yeah...click here to read more.
NORTH CAROLINA AMISH: The Amish are few and far between in North Carolina. As far as I know, the state has one settlement near Union Grove. A North Carolina TV station decided to pay the settlement a visit, mainly focusing on the Shiloh General Store which is owned and operated by an Amish family. Shiloh's biggest claim to fame is their amazing bakery. This is a New Order Amish community and they are much more welcoming of cameras than other Plain communities. The Union Grove church is in the same grouping as Gloria's church. One side note, the TV reporter has one of the Amish men's name spelled as GREYBER....I'd have to think that is a misspelling and that it is Graber. While it is not unheard of to have variations of Amish names (Bontrager and Borntrager, for instance), I have never seen Graber as Greyber. Anyway, click here to watch this interesting news segment.
