Amish in the News: Amish to Judaism; Iowa Mennonite Relief, Amish Singing in Lancaster, and Summer Accidents

    Published: Jun 3, 2014 · Updated: Jun 3, 2014 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

FAMILY JOURNEY: I don't talk about religion much on this website (ironically, since the Amish are a deeply devout people).  The reason I don't is I think religion is generally a very private, personal topic that each person has to reconcile on their own, finding their own brand of faith that works best for them.

The Amish themselves are not evangelicals for the most part, so I find my stance compatible.  But this family in the news has been on a journey that has taken them through many different faiths.  I'm just not certain how you can proclaim the Amish religion "wrong" and your new faith "right."    If that's the person's opinion that is absolutely their right but to sort of claim it as fact just because that is the conclusion you have reached...SIGH....it is that type of thinking that has caused so many wars to be fought in the name of religion....Click here to read about this family's journey.

I'd love to hear more about this family's Amish experience and I may try to get in touch with them.  I've not heard the term "brother" used often in the Amish church, so that intrigued me...

IOWA MENNONITE RELIEF:  My wife loves apple fritters, I may just have to venture to Iowa City next year for the 36th annual relief sale, these fritters sound amazing!:)  Click here to read about the Hawkeye State's annual Mennonite relief sale.

AMISH SINGING:  The "scribbler" is a columnist in the Lancaster paper who enjoys close ties to the area's Plain people and, wow, what a treat he received by being able to sit in on a singing.  Amish singing is just gorgeous because it is purely a capella.  What a treat. Click here to read.

As summer heats up and more and more Amish are on the roads and headed to lakes, it unfortunately spells tragedy sometimes...everyone keep their eyes open and stay safe in Amish country!
