It's Friday which means another installment of Amish in the News:
AMISH PASTA SALAD: Lee Ann Miller is an Amish Country chef in Holmes County and she often shares recipes from her family's heritage on the Cleveland, Ohio Fox affiliate. This week she shares a recipe for an awesome-sounding pasta salad.

ROAD GRUMBLING IN DAVIESS COUNTY, INDIANA: This was an interesting article in the Washington, Indiana newspaper. Apparently (and if you have ever been there, not surprisingly) Daviess County has more miles of gravel road than any other Indiana county. And the growing area finds itself in a dilemma: spend money to pave the roads and they quickly get damaged by horse hooves on the road. Don't spend money to pave them and everyone with cars has to drive around on dusty, gravel-topped, rutted roads. Click here to read an excellent article that really makes clear the issues.

DRUNKEN DRIVER AIMS AT AMISH BUGGIES: Bizarre story about a drunken man behind the wheel who seemed to deliberately target Amish buggies with his car, he'd charge at them in his car but never hit them. Still, his reckless driving resulted in the death of his passenger. Click here to read.
KUTZTOWN FOLK FESTIVAL: This festival is the gold standard of cultural expositions. It has been occurring for almost 70 years and each year showcases the area's rich, diverse, and deep Pennsylvania Dutch culture. This festival is on my "bucket list" to visit someday. Man, sounds like it'd be worth going to solely for the food. Click here to read about this year's festival.

MILLIE OTTO'S SPLENDID CREATION LASAGNA: Check in with Illinois Amish columnist Millie Otto. Funny, she uses the term "bucket list" in her column. Sheesh, what did people say before that movie came out? Did people just say "one thing I'm going to do before I die?" At least "bucket list" is shorter and not quite as deathly sounding. Click here for her column and a recipe for "Splendid Creation Lasagna."
