Amish in the News: Amish Wax Figures, Ice Cream Heist, Illinois Amish, Spam Recipes, and Millie's Peanut Butter Custard Pie

We have some interesting Amish in the News items today, so let's get right to it!

ICE CREAM HEIST:  Okay....I'm really stymied here.  Why did three Ohio men go through so much trouble to steal some Amish ice cream.  I don't get it.  I've read multiple news stories about this heist and none of them go to the question we are all wondering which is: why?  (and they leave the second question unanswered also which is "what flavor?"  Click here to read more.

Want an Amish life-size wax figure?

WANT AN AMISH WAX FIGURE?  Geez, these are sort of creepy looking....You know, maybe if I had had piles of money sitting around I'd buy one just as a keepsake...or maybe not....but these figures were once at the old Dutch Wonderland theme park in Lancaster County, now they could be yours. Check out the article here.

AMISH HOUSE ATTRACTION:  I think this is a good project to serve as a sort of "gateway" to the wonderful Arthur, Illinois Amish community. Click here to read more.

MOM'S SPAM SPREAD AND MORE:  I knew scrapple was a big deal in Pennsylvania Dutch country but I guess spam is too.  I'll confess that I have never eaten spam before and I probably never will, but here are some great recipes from Pennsylvania Dutch country using spam.

MY AMISH HOME'S PEANUT BUTTER CUSTARD PIE:  Check out Millie Otto's homemade peanut butter custard pie recipe this week. Millie Otto is an Amish woman who lives in Illinois and writes a weekly column for a local paper. Click here to read and get the recipe.

Ironically, I was just in the Amish area near Arthur, Illinois yesterday, where I saw mention of the Amish Heritage Center that is coming there. I happen to like the area just fine as it is, so I'd rather it not get too touristy! But I know that increased tourism means for jobs and more money for the local economy.

Yeah, I agree about not wanting it to get too touristy, but I almost think they need some sort of "gateway" to Arthur and that sounds fairly tasteful...

Sorry to tell you this Kevin, but the balding gene is passed on from the Mother.
The thinning on the top of your head is called male pattern baldness. Your
brother must not have inherited the gene from your Mom.
No it is not too late to try Rogaine, but it will not give you a thick head of hair,
      just fuzz.

UGH, thanks, Sharon, just what I didn't want to hear....I dont think Rogaine would be worth the expense and trouble if it's not really going to help.....I guess I'll blame my Mom for this mess....
