SPECIAL REPORT - AMISH LATTER-DAY SAINTS: Wow, this is quite a story. I've been aware of this one for awhile but not the particulars. And after watching most of the documentary I just came away feeling ambivalent.  There's a lot of emotion in this story and I'm happy for anyone that finds happiness as these people have, and I have a lot of admiration for the Latter Day Saints church...but....I don't know....I'd be curious to hear anyone else's thoughts on this article and video. Click here to read about these three families that are now Amish Latter Day Saints.
Mennonite-owned Big Olaf's creamery is a popular stop in Pinecraft for visiting Amish, Mennonites, and tourists!
PINECRAFT, FLORIDA: We've posted so much about this Florida enclave over the years that there's just not much new ground to cover. And this article doesn't really offer anything new, it still is a pleasant read about the Amish settlement in Florida. Click here to read the article.
AMISH WEDGE SALAD:Â This is a recipe from Lee Ann Miller, an Amish country chef and it just sounds like an amazing spring salad. Click here for the recipe.
PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH POT PIE: This post has several recipes that you might like but the one that caught my eye was for Pennsylvania Dutch Chicken PotPie Click here to enjoy.
HUTTERITES WANT TO BUY A TOWN: Now this is fascinating and, to me, just shows how much the Hutterites are as much a business as they are a religion (that isn't a slam, that same statement could be applied to many religions). Hutterites have many of the same belief systems that the Amish have, but they live communally. But these communes are also potent economic entities. Typically - like the Amish - when a Hutterite community reaches a certain size they plant a daughter community so that the church can spread out. Usually these settlements start from scratch in a field somewhere, but one Hutterite community wants to buy a whole town and use it for a new colony. Fascinating story, click here.
