Amish in the News: Who Is This "Amish Woman?", An Amish Singing, and How The Amish Thrive...

    Published: Apr 14, 2014 · Updated: Sep 2, 2014 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

There are several items of interest in the news starting out the week, all worth reading.

amishwomanAMISH WOMAN? I am not making light of this, because it's not a "funny" story, obviously the individual the cops were trying to catch was depraved. Rather this story shows the lengths police officers will go to capture the bad guys.  Police don't always receive a lot of positive press, but I do think they went above and beyond here and I'm glad the perpetrator has been caught.   Click here to read why this police officer was dressed as an Amish woman.  Odd thing is, he sort of passes for the part...maybe it is the facial structure, I'm not sure...what do you think?

AMISH THRIVING?   Why is the Amish church growing so fast?  Babies.  Lots of babies.  The Amish traditionally have big families.  Researcher Cory Anderson  says Amish communities nearly double every 20 to 30 years as “Amish women have children younger and more frequently than the national average."  Read more here.

AMISH SINGING:  If you are anywhere near Kenyon College in Ohio and have free time tomorrow morning, this would be well worth going to.  I just found out about this or I would have made plans to go.  The college is advertising an "Amish Sing" presented by the Jacob Beachy family.  I put in a call to Kenyon College to find out more info.  I would love to know whether the family is Old Order, New Order or Beachy Amish.  It doesn't matter, the program would be fascinating regardless, but from a cultural standpoint that would be very unusual - but very exciting - if it were an Old Order or New Order family. Click here for more information on the program and stay tuned for more info.
