BURNING ISSUE: The Amish settlement in St. Ignatius, Montana is the only one in the world located on tribal territory. The Amish arrival, though, has caused simmering tensions between the two very different groups who have virtually nothing in common culturally.
I'll write more about this in the near future, but I did have a chance to go to St. Ignatius a couple of years ago to explore the relations between the two groups. A lot of the concern back then concerned the Amish allegedly ignoring fishing, hunting, and gathering limits on tribal land. Now a new issue is cropping up: burning.
