Busy week for Amish in the News, so let's get started!

DELAWARE AMISH, PART I:   This is an in-depth, superbly researched story in the Wilmington, Delaware paper about genetic issues being dealt with in the area's Amish community.  The reporter was given unfettered access to an Amish family battling health issues and the reporter handled that access with respect and deeply textured reporting.  I will make sure I post Part II tomorrow.  I know we are all busy this time of year, but this article is absolutely worth a read.  Click here.

HOW DO THE AMISH PAY MEDICAL BILLS?  This is a companion piece to above, very interesting. Click here.

AMISH WORLD MEETS TRUCKING WORLD:    What happens when a semi-truck gets stuck on the ice?  Well, when the truck's owner was raised Amish, draft horses enter the equation. Click here to see this amazing video.

AMISH WINTER IN MANITOBA:  It's exciting to have an Amish community in Manitoba for the first time.  It seems like they are pretty open to outsiders, so there are opportunities for our readers in this area to get to know them, buy fresh produce, etc.  This is a great article about how the Manitoba community is taking shape.  Click here to read more.

MILLIE'S FROGMORE STEW:  This southern staple does seem to have found an audience among the Amish.  Gloria once ran it in the Amish Cook column and now Millie shares it in her Amish Home column. Click here for the recipe.

22 Amish church districts mean that there is plenty of business to go around for the many harness shops here in the Arthur community where Millie Otto lives

HOLIDAY MOLASSES PIE AND MORE:  I don't often sit around flipping through the pages of Saveur, but they have posted a surprisingly wonderful collection of Pennsylavania Dutch Christmas recipes, starting with molasses pie, German spice cookies, and more. Check out all of these recipes here!
