Amish in the News Express: Rise N Roll in NW Indiana (Sigh?), Amish Addiction

RISE N ROLL EXPANDS: Rise N Roll, for a long time, was a family owned Amish bakery near Shipshewana.  Their doughnuts were mesmerizingly delicious.

    Rise N Roll doughnuts...

The old family recipe of cinnamon caramel doughnuts proved to be a hit with the masses and eventually the Amish couple that started the bakery sold it to an outside company who is now franchising it.  I'm sure the doughnuts are still wonderful but it simply isn't possible to replicate the taste of doughnuts being made on someone's stove-top fryer in a mass produced way.  So part of me is kind of sad to witness the continued expansion, but...hey, if people still like them and the quality holds up, then more power to them.  Click here to read about the latest Rise N Roll opening up, this one in northwest Indiana.

AMISH REACHING OUT TO PREVENT ADDICTION:   I've not heard a lot about the Amish and the opioid crisis, but it must be impacting their communities on some level.  An Amish community in Pennsylvania held an educational meeting to provide information about the topic to those in their church.
