We have a lot of Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch news to dig into today, so let's do it!
MENNONITE RELIEF SALE: Man, if you are anywhere near Hutchinson, Kansas this weekend you need to drop in to the Mennonite Relief. It's a great cause, but if that doesn't do it for you, go because of the food: authentic Mennonite-Amish cuisine. 20,000 20,000 verenika pastries are being made and they will probably all be claimed by the time the weekend is over. What is verenika? Read all about it here.
BAKE OVENS: a fascinating piece about summer kitchens and their evolution and spot in Pennsylvania Dutch culture. Many Amish to this day have "summer kitchens." Click here to read more.
MARTYR'S MIRROR: Read about this key piece of Mennonite/Amish literature.
EDITOR'S PICK - HUTTERITE COLONY LIFE: You know, if you are in a hurry and you don't want to read the excellent article that goes along with it, this is worth clicking just for the SUPERB photography chronicling Hutterite life. The Hutterites, theologically, are closely aligned with the Amish but they live communally. Click here to read more and check out photos. These are among the best photos of Hutterite life that I've seen.
MY AMISH HOME - Check out Amish columnist Millie Otto this week and her recipe for Sour Cream Chocolate Delight. Yum! Click here.
