Okay, to this week's Amish-themed news:
This in the Abington, Pennsylvania paper had me scratching my head. Okay, this is the part of the article I was focusing in on it...the whole article is about the area farmer's market, here is the Amish part:
Emma Zook, of Amish County, makes homemade baked goods in her business called Sunny Hill Bakery. For the farmers market, she brings her sweet treats, including show fly pie, pumpkin rolls, whoopee pies and apple dumplings.
“I like to sell baked goods,” Zook said. “Everything is homemade. “
Zook heard about the Hillside Park Farmers Market through the Internet and enjoys participating in it.
“It’s a beautiful place to be, “she said.
She also vends at Little Mexico Campground in Winfield in central Pennsylvania.
Okay, I'll excuse the typos, because I make plenty...typos above include saying that Emma is from "Amish County" and she makes "show fly pie." I did a double-take about Emma Zook hearing about the market "through the internet." Kind of amusing. Okay, well, if any of our readers have a chance to check out this farmers market Amish baked god stand, let me know how it is!
A scene from Amish Acres Plain and Fancy
PLAIN AND FANCY: I've never seen this play before, but it is a staple of northern Indiana and Lancaster County's Amish country. I'm sure I'd enjoy it, it's just that usually when I go to Amish Country I just like to explore, not sit in a theater. That said, one of these days I'm sure I'll see it....the play is time-tested and a fun escape, as the article points out, in our polarized world. NORTHERN INDIANA AMISH: And speaking of northern Indiana's Amish experience, here's a television segment from a northern Indiana TV station about how to enjoy visiting the area Amish country. Click here.

NO DEAL: The Amish in northern New York could not reach a compromise with legislators on putting reflective markings on their buggies. There was just too much disagreement among the various factions of the Amish and now it is probably going to be up to lawmakers to impose a solution. That's too bad. Click here to read more.
MILLIE'S STRAWBERRY YOGURT PIE: Check in with Amish columnist, Millie Otto to see what has been going on in her life over the past week and get this curious recipe for "strawberry yogurt pie." Sounds good! Click here.
