Amish in the News: Millie's Sandwich Recipe! Update on Horse Trials, Update on Horse Shoes, Bizarre Story, and Plain and Fancy

We have an interesting slate of Amish stories in the news today, so I'll just get right down to business:

AUBURN VS. THE AMISH:  This is an update on where things stand in Auburn, Kentucky in regards to the Amish being cited for failure to put diapers on their horses.  This whole thing is a mess and never should have gotten this far.  Every other city in the country that has Amish living near it has found a way to deal with this issue non-judicially, but, for some reason, Auburn, Kentucky can't.  Click here to read the latest.

AMISH AND HORSESHOES:  After Daviess County, Indiana officials recently complained about the damage Amish horseshoes inflict on roads, local Amish leaders have approached the government to find a way to solve the problem.  Click here to read more

BIZARRE STORY:  Okay...a man kidnaps his sister, who left the Amish within the past year, to keep her from marrying a Mennonite man...what makes the story doubly weird is that I don't think the brother is still Amish either, so why would he care that his sister leaves the Amish if he's not even Amish anymore? PLAIN AND FANCY - SIGH, maybe this is a sign I am getting older (or maturing?), but this play actually sounds kind of appealing.  Amish Acres has been producing this light-hearted musical since 1986, the play was first written and released on Broadway in the 1950s.  Usually the idea of going to Amish Country and sitting in a dark theater doesn't appeal to me, but I bet this would be enjoyable. Sounds like the actors really get into their roles.  Click here to read more.

MILLIE'S SUPER SANDWICH!  Check out Illinois Amish columnist Millie Otto's weekly column and a recipe she shares for "A Sandwich to Remember:"  As someone who has never met a sandwich I didn't like, this recipe caught my eye. Yum! Click here for a sandwich to remember!
