Amish in the News: Pennsylvania Dutch Potato Stuffing, Amish on the Court, Amish Bread, and Fountain of Youth...

This is sure an interesting story that has come out recently: some Amish in the community of Berne-Geneva, Indiana possess a genetic mutation that results in an extra long life.  Interesting.  I've spent a lot of time in that Amish settlement and I can tell you that obesity is rarely an issue, so that is noteworthy, I think.  There are, however, a lot of other inherited health problems so I was surprised to hear this.  But, hey, I'm happy for my Amish friends there, if they have that gene, they'll likely live a long life.

Buggies in Berne, Indiana, is the fountain of youth here?

PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH BREAD STUFFING:  This was featured in the Washington Post over the past week and, well, if you are casting about for a good, authentic Pennsylvania Dutch filling recipe, this might well be it, check it out here.

AMISH VS. ENGLISH HOOPS: What a neat story this is!  This event took place 40 years ago between a group of Amish men in the Berne, Indiana area (who are probably still alive today if you read our Top Story!) who took on some non-Amish bankers - on the basketball court.
