Amish in the News: Tragedies in New York; Milk Parlor Rebuilt; Ex-Hutterites Write, and Mama Mary Schmucker on the mend?

Got some Amish in the News today to share.

TWO TRAGEDIES: It's been a rough week in the rural Amish settlements of Northern New York that have seen two tragedies in less than a week, both involving children.  But as is typical of the Amish they are rallying around one another with stoicism and an unshakable faith.  The accidents were remarkably similar, both involving Amish children darting into the street. I'm sure some lessons can be drawn from these about street safety for the Amish and speeding motorists.  Click here to read more.

MILKING PARLOR REBUILT:   Another example of Amish stoicism in New York at work here. Opposite end of the state, where a milking parlor burnt to the ground.  Amish church members arrived by the dozens from as far away as Ohio to help the family quickly rebuild. Click here to read more.

EX-HUTTERITES MOVE ON:  I kind of reserve judgment on cases like this.  Everyone needs to do what is best for them in their life and these people found the Hutterite lifestyle too oppressive and have decided to move on.  But they've taken on a bit more public of an approach. Mary Schmucker

Amish Mom Mary Schmucker stars in "Breaking Amish"M

MAMA MARY ON THE MEND?    One of the stars of the dopey show, Breaking Amish, is in the hospital recovering from hernia complications.  I have spoken with Mary Schmucker before on the phone and she is authentically Amish but, obviously, her public profile has caused many in her church to shun her. Click here to read more about "Mama Mary's" recovery.
