    Delicious Amish Rice Krispies Chicken

    Published: Mar 3, 2023 · Updated: Mar 3, 2023 by Kevin Williams | 4 Comments

You wouldn’t think of cereal as being something that would be a go-to ingredient for the average Amish cook, but you’d be surprised. The Amish often make their own cereal and there are plenty of homemade cereal recipes out there.

But this Rice Krispie Chicken is amazing and makes for an easy dinner that does not take much prep time!

They also very frequently shop at Amish stores, bent and dent stores, and even chain-type grocery stores where Rice Krispies is a favorite because it can be used in delicious dishes like this Delicious Amish Rice Krispies Chicken.

Cereal is a quick and convenient snack.  But I’ll be honest, I have not seen a lot of Amish just opening boxes of Fruity Pebbles for breakfast. Boxed breakfast cereals are not something that seems to be all that popular in Amish kitchens as a standalone meal. Rice Krispies seem to enjoy a more prominent spot in Amish and Mennonite kitchens, more so than other boxed brands. I am sure this is in no small part because it is great to use as a chicken coating. So, chances are, if you see a box of Rice Krispies in an Amish kitchen it’s not being eaten to hear the snap, crackle and pop, but to coat chicken. Hmmm, I wonder how Count Chocola Chicken would taste?

Of course, there’s an exception to almost everything I write on this website… I’m sure there’s an Amish person somewhere out there enjoying a bowl of Apple Jacks or Rice Krispies . But as a general rule, cereal isn’t the most popular dish in an Amish home.

Have a rolling pin or something like it ready and crush the Krispies in a bag.

Rice Krispies Chicken Going into the Oven

These chicken tenders are all nicely Krispie coated before you stick them in the oven. And if you don't have Rice Krispies, of course, you can use a generic rice cereal.

You can use any cut of chicken for this recipe, but a chicken breast is best.

This particular chicken recipe is very flavorful, and delivers a juicy dose of chicken with the subtle crunch that Rice Krispies offer. It really is a great recipe and it’s popular among the Amish, so give it a try! Keep some honey mustard, buttermilk ranch, or bbq sauce on hand to dip the chicken into! This would pair well with mashed potatoes or fries.

How coincidental to see this recipe! When I was a kid my dad thought HE invented this recipe, lol. It was a favorite Sunday dinner after church. My dad would dip the chicken pieces in beaten egg mixture, roll it in the crushed rice krispies, and put it in the oven to bake. He liked to put our entire dinner in the oven when possible, so we would often have scalloped potatoes, and baked carrots, and the carrots were his recipe as well. He sliced them in half length-wise, dotted them with butter, covered them with foil, and they were done at the same as the chicken and potatoes were. Find memories for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I always thought that crushed Rice Krispies could be used in place of Panko. They are quite similar.
