    Amish White Cookies

    This is a very old recipe that seems to be declining in popularity among Amish cooks, but is still found among old-timers.  Don't know why the cookie is falling out of favor, because it is a delicious little cookie!  This version comes to us from an Amish-Mennonite woman in Stuarts Draft, Virginia.

    Amish White Cookies

    Ingredients
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 cup confectioners sugar
    • 1 cup butter
    • 1 cup vegetable oil
    • 2 eggs
    • 4½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    Instructions
    1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
    2. Cream butter and sugar.
    3. Add eggs and oil.
    4. Add dry ingredients.
    5. Roll in balls.
    6. Place on ungreased baking sheet, and press with fork.
    7. Bake until light tan,
    8. to 15 minutes.

      I use this recipe all the time and sometimes add cinnamon to make Snickerdoodles. Always a big hit.
