From the Elizabeth Coblentz collection, this is a perfect recipe for the upcoming holidays. This is one of the recipes from the unfinished cookbook we were working on. Since the book never got published, I'm sharing these recipes with you.
Amish Gingerbread Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 /2 teaspoon ginger
- 1 /3 sugar
- 1 /2 cup shortening
- 1 /2 cup molasses
- 3 tablespoons hot water
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.
- Blend well.
- Chill dough at least 1 hour before handling.
- Roll out dough on floured surface to ⅛ inch thick.
- Use gingerbread men cookie cutter.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheets
- Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes.
- Cool and decorate
