    Autumn Amish Store Scenes

    Published: Sep 15, 2014 · Updated: Sep 15, 2014 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

COUNTRY LANE BULK FOODS: Autumn is a wonderful time to go out and explore Amish country.  You can find end-of-the-season fresh produce, colorful pumpkins, and vibrant mums.  I posted about Country Lane Bulk Foods in Knox County, Ohio last week, feast your eyes on this nice produce and some baked goods. Yum.   Iced pumpkin cookies like in the photo are a sure sign of fall.knox.139knox.140

Meanwhile, it was a crowded week at

DUTCHMAN'S STORE: Located in Cantril, Iowa,  Dutchman's is a Mennonite-run business that takes up a whole block in the town.  Take a look at the amazing mums adding splashes of color to their storefront!  This is one of these typical Plain-owned, everything under-one-roof emporiums selling everything from baked goods to bolts of fabric.  The store is worth checking out if you are in the area, located at  319 Division Street in Cantril.  Seems to be an especially popular venue during the crisp days of autumn.

EDITOR'S PICK:  THE HOME PLACE:   I may have to restrain myself from driving the hour to visit this wonderful Beachy Amish Mennonite-owned store just south of Georgetown, Ohio.  The Schlabach's sell an incredible array of products, but their deli and their homemade granola is sort of what put them on the map.  Proprietor Delbert Schlabach is a born salesman and takes care of his customer's every need. kate  This is a great time of year to go because they have fresh apple cider and fall mums along with their usual mouth-watering bakery and deli items.  The store has a playfulness to it that I like.  Here they are completing the "coronation" of Kate as their new bakery manager. They have a website which can be accessed here.

EDITOR'S PICK:  FOUNTAIN ACRE FOODS:  I've written enough about this place.  If you are a regular here you know it's among my most favorites, located on US 27 just north of Richmond.  This is an Amish-owned store that offers a staggering assortment of baked goods, bulk foods, cheeses, and even lawn furniture.  Their fall meat sell goes through Saturday, Sept 20.  Prices include whole chickens at 1.28 per pound (I will assume that is a good price, I don't buy much meat!:)  .82 cents per pounds for whole chicken legs and thighs.  You can call in your order at 765-847-1897, you have to leave a voicemail.
