This week has been a busy week so far with spending the day in Flat Rock, Illinois yesterday. So I’ll be playing catch up the rest of the day. We have a short, but sweet, blogroll this week with some super posts. What we lack in quantity this week we more than make up for in quality.
AMISH ANGEL CREAM PIE: I love the “Mee Maw Eats” blog….it is written by a woman who lives in Kalona, Iowa (the Hawkeye State’s largest Amish settlement)…so she has all sorts of memories and recipes steeped in Amish culture and she takes some pretty darn interesting road trips. This week she shares a recipe which I have run into over the years in various Amish settlements, but I’ve never made one. Well, now, Mee Maw has made one….check out the recipe and her story behind this amazing-sounding pie (and she has the handwritten recipe card!) Check it all out here!
THE AMISH BOOK SHANTY: Katie Troyer usually blogs from Pinecraft, Florida, but she’s been on the road visiting family and old haunts in Ohio the past week and she did a post about a gem of an Amish business that I will absolutely have to check out sometime…a little Amish bookstore tucked away into a house…wow, oh wow, Amish businesses tucked away into houses, those are the absolute gems of a treasure hunt through Amish country. Click here for the post.
4-INGREDIENT HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP: Check out this fun sounding recipe from the “Amish Side of Me.” A 4-ingredient laundry soap! Sounds awesome to me since many laundry soap recipes I have seen are so darn complicated. Check it out here.
