Okay, here is the weekly blogroll. A little something here for everyone, as usual. I try:)
RUNAWAY AMISH GIRL: I don’t know what to make of this blogger. I’ve featured her before. I’m not a huge fan of “I left the Amish let’s slam them now” blogs. But that doesn’t seem like what she is doing. I guess the blog’s focus is that of a young ex-Amish woman trying to make her way in the world. Kind of quirky. Click here to read an entry.
HONE MADE AMISH CARAMEL: This drove me batty. What is “hone made” caramel? I began to think the lady just made a typo in calling it honemade caramel, but then realized the blog was called House and Hone….ah, her last name is Hone….so I searched high and low for why and I discovered that is the writer’s last name…ha, ha…sometimes I’m a little slow on play on words. Okay, name games aside, the recipe for this Amish caramel seems superb, I like the photos, and, yum, makes me want to make caramel now! Click here for the recipe.
AMISH ON THE BEACH: This is a blogger who suddenly finds herself “followed” by the Amish. Kind of funny. You know how it is when maybe you hear a word for the first time and then all of the sudden you see it cropping up everywhere. Sounds like this lady wasn’t all that familiar with the Amish and then all of the sudden they were everywhere, including in her own family tree! She does write about the Amish she saw swimming at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and how they were still in full modest attire while in the surf. I’ve seen a wide variety of swimwear among the Amish from, what she describes, to trunks and bikinis on young unbaptized Old Order Amish. So there’s a wide range. Click here to read her fun post.
AMISH APPLE DUMPLINGS: Okay, I really need to quit visiting this blog because A) it makes me too hungry and B) as I wrote about when I first featured them, I just can’t picture doing a blog with one of my parents (and I love them dearly). But I just can’t imagine being in sync enough with them to write a blog with them. But this mother-daughter duo manages to pull it off. Click here for this week’s recipe: Amish Apple Dumplings. We are getting near apple season, so it seems appropriate. But what really caught my eye is their recipe for Apple Butterscotch Snack Cake. Not Amish, but I could see the recipe catching on in Amish kitchens. Click here for this amazing-sounding recipe!
