Time for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere in search of anything and everything Plain. Our first stop? Florida!
PINECRAFT IN WINTER: Smart people, the Amish. They know how to pick a great winter home. A number of Amish flock to the enclave of Pinecraft each winter to escape the wicked winds and snow of the north. This is one of my favorite parts of the state, with amazing beaches, hospitality, and great people. January - March is Pinecraft's peak season and Katie Troyer does a super job of capturing it on her blog. I couldn't pick one post to highlight this week, I like all of hers as they capture life in the unique community. Click here to check out her latest posts.
AMISH DATE-NUT BREAD: I'm often surprised how many recipes there are with dates among the Amish. Dates are more common in the Middle East than the midwest USA, but dates ship well and often end up in Amish bulk food stores. Check out this amazing-looking recipe for Amish date-nut bread.
INDIANA AMISH WEDDING: Check out a great description of an Indiana Amish wedding, pretty much jibes with my own experiences at Amish weddings, although there are variations from community to community. Click here to read more.
MOSE GINGERICH - AMISH IN THE CITY? Anyone remember Mose? He experienced a bit of fame from a run of successful reality shows, but once reality TV's interest in the Amish waned, Mose was left high and dry. He's now a truck driver, read one of his latest dispatches here.
AMISH CHOCOLATE FROSTING: Wow, this chocolate frosting looks amazing. Not sure exactly what makes it "Amish" other than very basic, I was looking for an ingredient that might flag it as Amish, but, yeah, anyway, this looks incredible. Click here.
