A judge in Ohio has lifted all outside guardianship of an Amish girl that was being legally forced to take chemotherapy to help battle her leukemia.  The parents resisted and fled with their daughter to Mexico for medical treatments.  The Amish parents were not resisting the medical care on moral or religious grounds, rather they said the treatment was making their daughter sick.
This was a tough case. Â Many Amish do accept modern medicine. Â As a father, I'd do anything to help make my daughter well if she were sick. Â On the other hand, I'm not sure I like the idea of an outside entity usurping my decision-making powers as a parent. Â Hopefully, parents will make the right decisions on a case by case basis and then there's be no reason for outside intervention.
