    Amish Coca-Cola Ranch Roast

Regulars here know that I love my Coke.  I also love ranch, and I love roast. So what happens when you combine all three? You get a supper that I really really like.

A chuck roast is a cut of meat that is pretty accessible and economical. Many Amish have sources for home-raised beef.

Not every Amish family owns their own cattle. But most Amish families know someone that does, and they will get in on the butchering of a meaty steer: Hamburger, steaks, and roasts are all favorites.

A cut of meat like this roast, when it’s packed with potatoes and carrots around it can make an easy meal for one whole large family, or if it’s just a couple people it can feed them a couple of meals.

    ❓Roast FAQ

Do the Amish Raise Their Own Beef?

Not every Amish family owns their own steer. Cattle, even a few, require a lot of pasture and not every Amish has that. But most Amish families know someone or have a family member that does raise steer. So most Amish families have a source of home-raised beef that they can get steaks, burgers, and chops from.

📋 Making the Coca-Cola Ranch Roast

My parents tested this recipe and thought it was outstanding.

My parents made a couple of changes that to the recipe. They added a small package of fresh mushrooms and used very small round potatoes instead of cubing, larger ones. They also used small carrots instead of cutting up larger ones. My parents almost forgot to add the ranch and ended up just sprinkling it on top of the roast and mixed it in from there.

They said both of these things lessened preparation time and then they baked it in the oven for about three hours. My Dad said maybe the next time they will try Pepsi (sacriledge!) or even root beer. You could probably do an RC cola pot roast. Geez, RC is underrated. I love that drink.

Whatever said you decide on, the soft drink with an a caramelization gravy-sauce quality and a sweet and savory contrast to the dish! My parents baked this for 3 hours in the oven at 350, but I don't see any reason this beef roast recipe could not be made in a slow cooker or crock pot.

If you really wanted to deviate from the recipe, you could skip the potatoes around the roast and just fix mashed potatoes separately as a side.

The recipe doe not call for garlic or onions but you could add some or either or both just to add some flavor. That is a nice touch. This is a protein-packed dish and the slow cooking over the meat allows it to soak in the flavors around it, you get a nice au jus effect. And kids love the idea of a roast cooked in Coke!

Did you add fresh mushrooms? I didn't see any in the ingredient list.
