    Diamonds in the Rough...

    Published: Nov 25, 2012 · Updated: Feb 2, 2021 by Kevin Williams | 2 Comments

Baseball and softball enjoy a wide following among the Amish.  I've stumbled upon many Amish softball games, some well-planned, others impromptu.  A few weeks ago I was in Holmes County, Ohio and happened upon a softball game being played at a company picnic.  The ball diamond was full of Amish and English playing side by side, it was a neat scene.

This is recess at a small Amish  school in Holmes County, Ohio last week where it appeared an impromptu softball game was taking place.  Girls and boys play together.  This was also the case in the company softball game that I stumbled upon, with an Amish girl hitting a ball harder than anyone.  She lofted a ball high to center-field, over the outfielder's head and scored an "inside the park" home-run.

What, no backstop? No uniforms? No adults yelling at the kids? What's the matter with these people?! lol

I often see the Amish children playing ball in the field beside their new school here in Bloomindale, Michigan. They look like they are having such fun.
