Autumn in February: Amish Apple-Walnut Bars

Serves: 16 servings
Ingredients
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and chopped
  • ¾ cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in egg.
  3. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon; gradually add to the creamed mixture, just until combined.
  4. Stir in apple and walnuts.
  5. Pour into a greased 8-in. square baking dish. Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool on a wire rack
  7. Yield: 16 servings.
