Classic Amish Spice Cake
- 2 cups brown sugar
- ½ cup butter or margarine, softened
- 2 eggs
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. ground allspice
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 cup sour milk*
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Cream sugar and butter or margarine together until fluffy; add eggs and beat until light.
- Sift together all dry ingredients, then add them alternately with the milk to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition; mix in the vanilla.
- Pour batter into a greased 9 X 13-inch baking pan), bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
