Shaker Sugar Cookies
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- ½ teaspoon lemon peel, grated
- 1 /4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 3 /4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 1 /2 cups flour
- Cream butter and sugar.
- Save ½ egg white for brushing cookies.
- Slightly beat the remaining eggs and add to butter mixture.
- Add grated lemon peel and nutmeg.
- Sift cream of tartar with flour and work into butter mixture.
- Form into ball, cover and chill an hour.
- Roll out to 1 /2 inch thickness and cut with large round cookie cutter.
- Brush with egg white and sprinkle generously with sugar.
- Bake at 400 for 10 mins.
