Homemade "Heinz" Catsup

Serves: 5 pints
Ingredients
  • 2 gallons of tomatoes
  • 2 1 /2 cup sugar
  • 1 1 /2 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 /4 cup salt
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • pinch of cloves
  • 1 /2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 /4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 /2 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 quart tomato paste
Instructions
  1. Wash and cut into pieces the tomatoes.
  2. Boil for a few minutes.
  3. Put into a cheesecloth and drain for four hours or overnight.
  4. Throw away the juice.
  5. Put pulp through strainer and add all ingredients to pulp and put in jars.
  6. Process for 10 minutes.
  7. Yields approximately 5 pints.
