Regina's Easy Amish Bagels

Serves: 12 bagels
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 5 cups flour
  • 3 ½ quarts boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water with sugar.
  2. Add 2 teaspoons salt and flour, one cup at a time.
  3. Knead and let rise until double, about 90 minutes.
  4. Divide dough into 12 pieces.
  5. Punch hole in center with finger and stretch into doughnut shape.
  6. Let rest 15 minutes.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon salt to boiling water.
  8. Carefully drop bagels into boiling water for 3 minutes.
  9. Turn halfway through.
  10. Arrange on greased baking sheets.
  11. Bake at 400 for 20 – 25 minutes. Makes 12.
