Mrs. Yutzy's Crumb Cake
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1 /2 cups whole wheat flour
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 1 /2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 /2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 /2 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1 /2 cups sour milk
- Blend first five ingredients to make crumbs.
- Reserve 2 cups of crumbs for later.
- To the rest of the crumbs, in a bowl, add the next 5 ingredients and stir.
- Batter will be lumpy.
- Pour batter into a 9 X 13 cake pan.
- Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top.
- Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
- If you want more of a "hot pudding" in the center, bake for 35 minutes.
- Great with milk or ice cream
